The body operates on a balance system, where your eyes have to correlate with what your ears are sensing. When you are traveling, some times this can get thrown through a loop. For instance, you might not be focusing on what is in front of the car or you are just distracted by something else. The same can be said while you are traveling through the air. The symptoms of motion sickness can include vomiting, nausea, headaches, and even cold sweats. Here are some tips that you can use to help you increase the chance that you won’t get motion sickness during air travel.

Choose Your Seat Carefully

The first thing that you want to do is choose the seat on the aircraft very carefully. Basically, you want a seat that is close to the wing of the aircraft or one that is near the front of the aircraft. If you get yourself to focus on the horizon, you will also have a much better chance of not getting airsick. If for some reason you are not able to pick out the seat that you want ahead of time, most flight attendants will let you switch with an open seat that meets the criteria you are looking for. Just explain to them your situation.

Eating & Drinking

Most people just think that they can eat and drink whatever they want prior to a flight or during the flight. That is just not true unless you want to get airsick. You don’t want meals that are loaded with fat or that are spicy right before you go on a flight. That is just asking for trouble. Instead you want to eat smaller meals with things like breads and crackers, as they will help ensure that you don’t vomit. You also want to make sure you are drinking plenty of water too.

Other Tips

There are quite a few other tips that you can use as well. Taking a ginger tablet could also help. In addition to that, you could also point the air fan that is located right near your seat towards you in order to get more air flow towards your face. Believe it or not, this helps a lot. You also don’t want to read during the flight or be on the computer, it is actually one of the things that will make your chances increase for airsickness. There are also medications that you can take as well, just make sure to speak to your doctor first about them.
